Sci-fi singer-songwriter Aaron J. Shay is a balladeer who blends old-world banjo twang with modern melancholy. His performances are highly interactive experiences, featuring many sing-alongs and stomp-alongs, all punctuated by his funny and heartfelt musings on relationships, creativity, magic, and the future of humanity. Influenced heavily by punk and Americana, his songs fall in some strange realm between Pete Seeger, David Bowie, and The Mountain Goats.
Award winning singer/songwriter, ethnomusicologist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, Crystal Bright, has played over 1000 shows from Canada to San Diego, Florida to Seattle since 2010. Bright performed with the North Carolina Symphony in 2011 on an arrangement of her song "Toy Hammer," and has performed at various festivals around the country (SXSW, Savannah Stopover, FloydFest, DragonCon, Midpoint Music Fest, The Steampunk World's Fair, Shakori Hills, and many others.) She took Runner Up for On the Rise at Floydfest 2013 for a return set in 2014, and was named Best Singer in 2012, Best Songwriter in 2014, and Best Musician in the Triad in 2015 by Greensboro's Yes Weekly. Bright has an eclectic, haunting but yet whimsical, carnivalesque world folk sound, dubbed "kaleidophrenic cabaret." She plays accordion, musical saw, concertina, piano, Taiko drum, adungu (Ugandan harp), and various others, leaving people captivated with her operatic & soulful vocals and virtuoso command of her exotic instruments. Her albums (a visual collaboration with DividingMe Photography, "The Absolute Elsewhere" (Jan. 2015) as well as "Muses and Bones" (2012)) received press and glowing reviews in the US & Europe, as well as radio airplay in the US, UK, & Canada, including NPR and BBC appearances.
Unwoman (aka Erica Mulkey) is a San Francisco-based solo cellist-singer-songwriter. Her sets feature stand-up electric cello with live looping. She received two Steampunk Chronicle Reader’s Choice Awards in 2015, for best solo musician and best album. Unwoman has performed with Amanda Palmer, Voltaire, Abney Park, Rasputina, Stripmall Architecture, Vernian Process, The Nathaniel Johnstone Band, and many others. She is active on Patreon and has run over a dozen successful kickstarter campaigns.
Pilot House is a podcast where two friends watch the pilot episodes of TV shows they’ve mostly never seen before, and try to figure out where the show was headed from there. Listen to us recap everything from beloved dramas to cheesy sitcoms and long-standing procedurals, lovingly picking apart every detail.
Sarah Shay is a musician and podcaster from Seattle. She sings nerdy folky songs that are usually funny but sometimes sad, interspersed with her insights into pop culture and storytelling. A keen observer of all manner of modern fiction, Sarah writes songs that dance between a variety of subjects, from rock star poets to time-traveling adventurers, every show inspiring in the audience some new perspective on age-old tales.

In the far-flung future, a graduate student uncovers the classified records of a vanished scientist/poet sent to explore alternate Earths and document his findings in strange stories and original songs. Over the course of the show, you will hear about many fantastical places, from sunken towers under monstrous seas, to cyber-punk rock clubs in foggy super-cities. An interactive show for all ages, Apocalypse Songs delivers a message that the end of everything is just the beginning.
Having the ambitious wish to propel the entire world into a melodic vortex, Marquis of Vaudeville emits an extraordinary sound that spirals listeners on an utterly imaginative, musical merry-go-round. Listeners never know what moodswung journey they’ll embark upon once these musical highwaymen hijack their consciousness. With imagination at its core, the theatrical flair and intriguing nature of their songwriting have grasped the attention of music lovers from the most critical of music elitists to the average radio listener. Although performing frequently at pop-culture and steampunk-fandom conventions and festivals, the musical menagerie is widely known for their own extravagant Vaudevillian inspired sold-out spectacles such as A Clockwork Wonderland: Through Aether & Mysterium, Gadgets & Gobstoppers: The Twisted World of Wonka, and the show that shares the grandiose title of their ambitious debut album, The Great Promenade of Fools & Ghosts. The group is known the world over for their progressive, psychedelic, punk-cabaret stylings fusing timeworn elements of the old world with newfangled innovation. Due to the music’s mysterious, yet playful nature, they have befittingly dubbed the style ‘melodic mischief.’ The act has composed and licensed music for a variety of film projects and television shows, such as the syndicated series Charmed & Showtime Network’s hit series Dexter. They’ve also been featured in such steampunk publications as Race Point Publishing’s book Anatomy of Steampunk, as well as Gearhearts Steampunk Glamor Revue. Hate them or love them, they demand the world take notice, and merely desire to incite something genuine, to inspire sincere emotion despite the world’s mind numbing mediocrity and generic mass production. Marquis of Vaudeville is a tantalizing flavor for even the most finicky musical appetite.
Lord and Lady Vanderlitton host a night of art and science. As a guest representing an adventuring guild you'll view the latest marvels, and compete for their favor with puzzles and games. Everyone has a secret, what's yours? (No acting or gaming experience needed. Great for 1st-time RPers.)

Saturday’s Late Night Content
Midnight to 1:30AM | Aurelio Voltaire After Dark Join Aurelio Voltaire for late night and very adult irreverent fun! 18+ and ID checked at the door! |
Sunday, March 22 2020
Construct a motor, design a robot body, and experiment with the finished build to produce different artsy results. Then explore the wonderful world of generative art - art made using machines and even mathematical methods - to get a look into the history behind your drawbot design. Children under 8 will need adult assistance.
Have you admired those jewelry pieces made of tiny watch parts and wished you could add that kind of intricate clockwork to your own projects? Well, now you can! Here, you will learn how to assemble tiny watch parts to make an accessory which you can add to a hat or gun, or wear as a necklace!
Turn an empty lipstick container into a handy, safely portable pin cushion or needle case. All materials to make one case will be provided.
This is not your usual feather fascinator! In this workshop, you will make a headpiece that features gears, lace, and ribbon. The gears are cut from cardboard and painted to provide the look of real metal without the weight! You will attach your gear and lace design to an elastic band for easy wear.
Learn about circuits and simple electronics. Using copper tape, LEDs and a coin cell battery make and decorate a simple circuit.
A fast and fun project to make a circuit with a small motor, then design and engineer the rest of the robot so that it "buzzes" around the table. Multiple materials provided and students can make, unmake, remake, add, subtract materials and see what works best. Then the BumbleBots can battle or race each other.
What can you do with those small scraps? Make small projects like pouches and key chains. Many little projects like hat bands, embossed leather projects, bracers, or even gloves. I will have a few scraps and hides of various leathers. Some trinkets and baubles to put on the items.
No sew leather pouches
There are few other fields in human endeavors that has produced the strange , dumb ,insane and just plain weird as War. Round battleships? Guns that shoot around corners? Aircraft that are more dangerous to the crew then the enemy. Tanks that fly and even weirder things.
A demonstration of Magical gimmicks and self-working card tricks. Coins, Boxes, Rings and Rope, Magic Deck, Magical Toys, Math Magic, and balancing.
This panel will describe the process of building a small, drive-able art car and what is involved from design to completion. Bring your questions about vehicles that you've been thinking of building!
Cowboys & Aliens, Firefly, and that oldie but goodie Wild Wild West have filled our screens. How has the old west stood up to punking? What about magic, extraterrestrials, and superheroes? It was already a rough and ready time of inventions and hastily contrived gadgets, while shotguns and leather took the place of drawing rooms and tea. What does this particularly aesthetic allow storytellers to do? What’s the fascination? And which great stories beyond these should we be reading and watching?
Did you see the Aetheric Etherblade tournament on Friday and think “I want one of those”? Then this is the workshop for you. Join Albert Bodenhamer as he walks attendees through the intricacies of sourcing parts and building their own Aetheric Etherblade. Topics covered include safety, skills needed, types of sabers, components overview and planning your own custom masterpiece.
Simple ways of adding color to your steampunk wardrobe
People have had some rather unique ideas how to cure various maladies over the decades and some are still with us.
Even Steampunks need to exercise. Experience the exercises that British Expeditionary forces used to expand the Victorian Empire. Indian clubs were exceptionally popular during the health craze of the late Victorian era, used by military cadets and well-heeled ladies alike, and even appeared as a gymnastic event in the 1904 and 1932 Olympics.
Most War Room attendees are familiar with the ways of fighting with a cane, something that was not meant as a weapon. Here we teach an African style of cane and spear work.
For those of us who choose to sit while dueling . . . using fencing gear approved by Clockwork Alchemy. Weapons provided by Tom Badillo, safety gear provided by EnGarde Fencing. More information about the history of wheelchair fencing can be found via this link: https://www.paralympic.org/news/sport-week-history-wheelchair-fencing
Mensur German Dueling is really neither a duel or a sport - it is a style of fencing promoting character without winners or losers. Participants face off one pace away from each other and try to smite the other with a sword without moving their feet. Flinching and dodging are not allowed as a matter of honor. Historically, scars from Mensur German Dueling were seen as a badge of honor.
There are several cane fighting traditions: from the French La Canne to the use of Prof. Vigny's cane in Bartitsu. The use of the cane is widespread for self defense. Instead of a specific style we will look at what we hope are some of the simplest and most effective methods of self defense with a cane.
A workshop for adventurers, writers, choreographers and martial artists: What do you do if you find that you brought a knife to a sword fight? Or a sword to a spear fight? Here you will learn strategies for unmatched weapons. Your best strategy will depend on your reach, strength and speed.
The 1904 Olympic Games had four styles of fencing: foil, epee, saber and singlestick. We will explore the rules and fencing techniques of the martial art of singlestick, using the source material found in Winn and Wolley's book, Broadsword and Singlestick, circa 1881. We’ll go over the footwork, parries, cuts, and thrusts needed to compete in our steampunk version
Introduction to Modern Arnis (knife and stick) and Wing Chun (kung fu), two close quarter fighting systems well suited for the narrow alleys of old cities and the tight gangways and corridors of battling airships. Participants will learn fundamental fighting techniques of the two systems, and a fighting sequence that they can take home to practice.
The pole arm — a perfect weapon for defending your airship. In this class, Coach Paul Tosetti will be teaching Italian Pole Arm techniques originally taught by the masters of the 1500's. Let the lessons of the past protect you in the future.

Go on a general tour of Wild West history, discussing reality vs. fiction. Then together, we will design a world based on the whims of the participants. Each person wishing to do so will create a quick elevator speech version of a storyline.
Yes, Virginia, there was a Victorian Santa Claus. But, no, there were no tighty whities. And there were no hooligans until the late 19th century. This panel explores historical inaccuracies that sometimes creep into our writing.
As genre writers, we need to create the world that our characters live in. We will discuss the nuts and bolts of world building. Does it start with your character or with your story? And does it need a “universal truth” to anchor it and make the unbelievable, believable.
If you write military fiction, but haven’t been in the military or know anyone who has, then this session is for you. We’ll talk shop, decipher the alphabet soup, drop slang—and possibly f-bombs—and help you get your writing ship shape and fit for formation.
The 19th Century was a time of audacious engineering endeavours and most interesting engineers and scientists. A combination of imaginative builders, new materials, and scientific discoveries led to unprecedented building projects, from transatlantic cables to railroads, and skyscrapers to bridges.
