Elizabeth McComb is a professional seamstress and clothing/costume designer with more than 30 years of experience in sewing and costume design, She has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Arts, with a concentration in Art History. She has studied the clothing design elements of many time periods, with a particular focus on the Victorian and Medieval eras. Elizabeth began Fabrefaction Studio in 2015. Fabrefaction is a clothing design studio that offers unique, custom made clothing and costume pieces with a historic, romantic, and whimsical feel. Elizabeth’s creations are a fusion of many historical design styles, inspired mostly by the Victorian and Medieval time periods, but also including elements that she invents herself. She enjoys experimenting and incorporating new and innovative clothing design features into her pieces.
My Process – How I Make My Art
I create each clothing item I sell individually from conception to completion. Steps include choosing the fabric, creating unique patterns and/or utilizing components of historical patterns, cutting the fabric, and constructing each piece by hand. Each item is hand sewn and completed using a commercial-grade sewing machine, serger, iron, grommet setting machine, an other tools and equipment necessary to complete the work. I work with high quality fabrics, recycled materials, and components with a limited availability, so each piece is one-of-a-kind. I make all my inventory stock items myself, and I often work with customers to custom design items that fit their specifications. I create pieces for both men and women.
